Big Ups to Brklyn? naw, its Pasadena son.

Well its great to be back in Chico.

I think.

The next couple of posts will be from last semester,

as well as late summer

and over the holiday break.

I just got some film back from the lab,

to which I am pleased with greatly.

getting film back never gets old.

its like little mini Christmas’,

seeing frames for the first time in months, maybe years is a special moment.

Well, here they are,

this is morgan. he likes tequila.

he loves the Packers and the Farve.

he is nice man.

hers is the one and only dylan, more of him to come much later.

The next few are from early in the Fall 07 Semester.

I took a trip down the Feather river just outside of Chico with Nick Osti and friends.

It was a great day.

This is only Part I, the pre-party.

The myth, the man, the laugh, the rhymes, the Frosti.

The next is a little party sequence.

More to come from that day soon, but not in this post.

I will end this on a rediculous display from Orange County.

These are real speed bumps.

over 7 feet long and 15 inches high.

I took this one from the curb level.

oh, and this last photo.

Gotta run. more to come.

Days of Summer

Gonna drop one on ya.

just a little bit.

just ta see if you like it. . .

right Caroline?

a few tips first.  😉  pun intended.

wake up earlier, its rewarding.

listen to CRS, Justice, Air, Cinematic Orchestra, Portugal The Man, and Rogue Wave and Jose Gonzales.

drink less.

drink more. who was I kidding?

Watch Weeds, The Office, Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia, The L Word, and of course, Entourage.

Keep up on current events, balances you and keeps you from being a zombie to one aspect of your life.

Screw it, watch anything HBO has to offer. Especially in the next five years.

Go to Vegas at least once a year.

explore the outdoors around you,

investing in a DVR or TIVO is like diversifying your life portfolio.

ride a bike or walk if you can. LA is the exception.

Never give homeless people money.

Give them food,

gift certificates to someplace they can get food,

or give them your attention.

Not all problems can be solved with money.

but what do I know.

here are some frames ya little rascals.

Thanks Erin.

Missing DC a bit. or at least the friends I made there. Be back at the end of Oct.

Miles Lavin everybody.

Playing softball in front of the capitol was amazing.

14 mm

Before I left school,

I applied for membership in Canon Professional Services (CPS).

to get it, I had to prove I worked for a publication, and fill out a couple of forms.

They have a two day turn around on repairs,

and here’s the kicker,

they let you rent any lens and body they make, if they have it in stock.

Its like getting presents twice a month.

The first piece of equipment I decided to rent was the 14mm f/2.8L

and all of the photos that follow will be through that lens.

Its a beauty of a lens, and wide as hell.

I love it.

Olde stuffe

I am now a resident of our nations capital, Washington D.C.

never seeing myself as an east coaster, I now have taken up the task of maintaining west coastness, to which I am aptly prepared.

have my dodger cap

my fierce love for Kobe and the Lakers

my uncomfort nature with humidity

my love for the ocean.

and my attitude.

it will be a great 10 weeks.

the last thing I ate in cali was In-N-Out.  so bomb.

I just had about 20 rolls of film developed, from the entire last semester.

Chico, Alabama, Boston, LA, Pasadena, Virginia Tech and where ever else I went.
there will be a downpour of images on this here blog.

we will start with Bama’.

one of my cousins took this, and I like it, rockin’ the canon strap.

my cousin Jessica, She is the Director of Scheduling of the Governor of Alabama Bob Riley. This was taken at the Governor’s mansion, where he has a pool in the shape of the state of Alabama. It was under construction or something so I could barely see it.

Which brings me to my next point, I want a pool in the shape of California. done and done.

Grandma Early, who used to be a signer, still has a voice of gold. She is one of the funnest people I know.

Alabama State Capitol building, after the inauguration ceremony. state trooper.

and there is your token staircase shot. I still love it though.

These are the film (35mm)shots that I gathered while visiting Julius and Craig in Boston. “Getting boston in boston”

Gotta throw a shout out to my main damie JMIII for letting me use his old mac computer, I would not be able to do this otherwise. I wouldn’t be able to do it too.

Here are some of my favorites.

I just like this next one because it makes me remember how awfully frigid it was that day. you can see it in my face.

that was also the day i decided to shave everything but my upper lip. Yes, I had an Adam Morrison for about 3 or 4 days. I got some funny looks. oh and thank god for matt’s collection of available alpaca scarves, so necessary.

transportation in the park.

some walk, some use a segway. whatever floats your boat.

walked down this street everyday while I was there. loved to people watch here.

I was taken by the steam pipes, something that we just don’t have on the west coast.

This next guy was an ass.

He rode right up to me and did a skid in my face. he got his though, oh boy did that old man get his.

by the river.

here we have ben.

can’t have Boston without Ben Franklin.

the Lakers are better, the celtics missed out this year and Kobe is a “G”. that’s just it.

and this last one is me owning some good ol’ boys in Boston.

gotta love the guy on the right. and the fact that they were all wearing black leather gloves.  it was pretty cold.

sb sunset

That’s all for now. peace.

Major Upload, Private Moments

It has been quite some time since I have been able to sift through all of the photos that I took and/or developed over break.

 Lets recap:

  • Stormtroopers for the Rose Parade
  • Governer’s Inauguration and Ball (will upload later)
  • Family Christmas (will upload later)
  • the 1881
  • Early assignments for the Orion
  • Other misc Chico photos

I really don’t have any rhyme or reason to the order of the photos, I’m just going to publish whatever comes to me, so note that these aren’t chronological in any way.

I want to start off with a couple of frames I got a a buddy’s birthday recently.  He turned 19, and had a pretty darn large party with plenty of alcohol to make it last.  People were playing beer pong for hours until the DJ got the open air dance floor going with some Nor Cal/East Bay Music.  Basically it was all Mac Dre and E-40.  I might have heard Nickatina and some Tupac, but the “THIZZ NATION” definitely represented.

Represented HARD.

They were out to control the dance floor.  They did.

Thizz nation?  OK.

But really fellas, what’s with the glasses/goggles?

I guess it really doesn’t matter if it makes you happy.

These next two seemed pretty content with themselves.

Nice guys.  stay classy.

And here is the birthday boy.  He had a pretty good night.

So here is my roommate Cody.  He wanted to get a tattoo in remembrance of his late infant cousin and his late friend.  This frame ran in the Orion, for a “Developing Chico” segment in the paper.  It’s basically a small portion of the Features section that showcases a standalone piece of work from the photography department.  I liked the expression on his face, he never winced from the pain.

Over Christmas break I went with my buddy Matt to photograph an entire division of stormtroopers.  George Lucas was named Grand Marshall of the 2007 Rose Parade and Bowl game, so as an escort, what could possibly be better than 200 something fully suited stormtroopers.

To these uber fans from all over the globe, apparently nothing.

To these people, this was a chance of a lifetime.

I doubt they got to actually to meet Lucas in person, but simply getting to live out the dream was enough to get these fans to practice four days straight for the parade.

The only day out of the four they practice that I attended was an informal dress rehersal, so I never got any shots with them in full gear, but I think these do justice.

Here they are spacing themsleves in formation.

It was funny watching them learn how to march around corners.  These are people who own thousands of dollars worth of action figures and still hang out in comic book stores, not military personnel.

And on the left is the lucky schmuck who was chosen to be Darth Vader.

I wonder what the interviews were like for that.

“So what qualities do you have that best exemplify an ruthless imperial Sith Jedi leader?”

Riiiiiight. . .

I had found this roll of 35mm film that had to be at least 10 years old last summer, and I was really curious to see if it would still be good.  I dunno, it looked kinda beat up on the outside, and hadn’t been kept in the best conditions so I tried it out.

This is what I got.

I was pretty darn pleased.

This next one is from a while back, May 1st, “MAY DAY” to be exact.  I guess it was on a roll of film that I didn’t get developed until recently.  I really dig this one.

On a different note, I know this guy named Lupe.

Lupe is hardcore.

Lupe doesn’t have health insurance.

Lupe had an accident.

Thank God Lupe is hardcore, or he’d be up a creek or drowning in debt.

He was on the job, and injured himself.  He cut an inch and 1/2 slice into his leg with a box knife.

However, he couldn’t afford to go to the hospital so he had to fix it on his own.  He gathered cleaning supplies and Krazy Glue.

Krazy Glue?

Yep, Krazy glue.

That’s how Lupe rolls.

He played basketball the next day too.

Speaking of basketball, I have a couple of frames from a game I shot for the Orion newspaper.

Well. . .

that’s all for now,

Σύλληψη εσείς στον ανόητο flip-side!
