It has been a long semester.
I’ve done a lot of assignment for The Orion.
I went to Boston and Virginia, but most of the time I stayed in Chico.
Met new people, made friends, connections, acquaintances, and the like.
Supported locals artists, bands and helped them get exposure.
Fun times for sure.
Unrelenting stress on the horizon, maybe.
Can’t wait to start my internship.
Kind of wanting to start the next chapter of my life.
Milestone in my life, this summer could prove to be.
Everything kind of boil down to how well I do this summer.
I can’t wait to shoot D.C. out.
Gonna have that city down pat.
Here are some of my photos from the last weeks at The Orion.
CSU Stanislaus Baseball player in the dugout.
Another one from Fight Night.
Squirrel on the golf course.
Boots Riley of The Coup
He was really cool, and I was down with the music, it was so different, had this unusual energy to it.
Autograph for a fan, of course!
A young kid at the concert named Jariah, his dad is Hap, is the Dialecs DJ.
Loved the light in there.
Say hi to Jules.
She would say hi to you.
AFICTION, A HARD ROCK CHICO BAND, oh and pretty cool guys too. DIRP.
just a couple of frames, more to come later, hopefully?
RACER PROFILE – HEATHER BARTLETT
Chico’s Race track.
You get some characters out there.
Good Ol’ Boys, old racers and their wives, young guns, wannabes and everyone in between.
. . .and then this guy.
He just loved to race. I wonder if he wore a shirt. ( insert Aqua Teen Hunger Force reference here)
Race track fans.
People at the fence.
Loved the sign in front of the bathrooms. Hoosier is a racing tire company.
Pit Crew Chief and race organizers constantly checked the board for updates, heat match ups and official race times.
This is Miss Bartlett, a Chico state student who is the points leader in her racing league.
Her hood logo.
The front of the car, “Pretty in Pink.”
She does a lot of the work herself, and even though she doesn’t know all of the racing/car terminology, she obviously gets results. She has that true racing spirit and a winning attitude.
She even races against her dad in Marysville, otherwise he acts as her mentor and Crew Chief.
I loved how she races with nails, that’s pretty bad ass.
She is also a huge fan of stars, they are all over her car and tattooed on her foot.
She loved to listen to her ipod and play with her new dog before races.
She gets strapped in by her crew before the race. SHe wears a special brace to protect her neck, mostly because she was in a pretty bad wreck a few years ago, and has since seen the need for such safety measures. Most racers don’t wear it; it is the exact same device that would have saved Dale Earnhardt’s life.
I just really like this one.
She wanted to add yet another feminine touch to her pink and yellow car, so she added Nascar Barbie.
The doll had a helmet at one time, but now has to suffer getting dirt in its face.
Just before she went out.
Around turn one in the middle of the race.
Rounding turn one, she kicks up a lot of earth.
Here Heather passes a fellow racer to take the lead. She would win the race, her second win in as many weeks.
Here she takes the checkered flag.
The drivers all had their own crew, these guys would help to move the stranded or crashed cars. Hillbilly much?
When Nascar on TV just doesn’t cut it. Yup.
I kicked it with these guys for most of the races, they had the best seats, being the Fire Crew and all.
The End, for now. I’m going to try and go with her family to Marysville, to watch her race again. I’m trying to get audio this time.
Catch ya on the flipside.
